White Granite mills look and feel cheap

I recently purchased my first home and was looking forward to having this "perfect" addition to my kitchen. However, I was SEVERELY disappointed in the quality that the white "granite" had. I have used these mills on numerous occasions, and know how great they are. But when I took them out of the box, I immediately regretted my choice. The white granite ones do not even remotely feel the same as the other mills available. You can feel and see the seam of where the mills have been wrapped, and for that much money, I don't want it to look that cheap. I have cooked with the cookware, used the pots and dishes so I know the kind of quality they carry. However, the best way I can describe the white granite salt and pepper mill set is - looked and felt cheap.

Painted ones peel and split Wood ones last

The inner workings of these are really good. They are adjustable for size of grind, from very coarse to very fine. The wooden ones - stained, not painted - have lasted me for years. Unfortunately the 2 sets I have had that are painted are extremely prone to peeling paint and splitting wood at the base. You absolutely can't let them get wet or be near humidity. The grinder still works well on the painted ones so I still have them but the painted wood bottom section is completely gone. It's a shame - they were so pretty!

Not what I expected

Wanted these for a while, had not handled them in person before purchase. I thought they were a heavier material and was disappointed at the light, plastic, cheap feel. I purchased online and accidentally tried to return at an outlet so settled for an exchange for the wood version, which for the price point, I am not happy with. There are heavier, more high quality grinders for this price point or less. I love Le Creuset products, but for me, this is a skip.

Plastic, not the real material you would expect from Le Creu

We were looking for a small grinder set for our kitchen counter and really wanted to like these. When we got them home, we realized how light they are and the cheap material used to make them. I'm so disappointed that it wasn't the normal material for Le Creuset. I never even paused to think it would be made out of anything else. For $65, that is a lot to spend on a plastic grinder set, even if the interior mechanics work. So disappointed :(

I love Le Creuset and have many of their products. I saw this set in Switzerland last year and almost bought it. Well I ordered it online and was immediately disappointed. They are made of plastic. I would not have ordered them had I known that. I went back on the website and it doesn't say anywhere on there that they are made of plastic. I swear when I saw them they were not plastic. I am considering returning. Very sad.

I will not buy these mills again.

I bought 2 sets of these at an outlet store, one for myself and one for my daughter, because we love Le Creuset products. I thought they were over-priced at $40 per set, but then I thought I wasn't going to need to buy another set in my lifetime. I'm not sure if I've had them 10 years yet or not -- I don't have a receipt to show -- so I won't be trying to return the salt mill for a replacement. As time has progressed the salt grinder has gotten harder and harder to grind. Last night it finally seized up completely. My husband took it apart and tried to troubleshoot the issue. Basically, after internet searching, he said that moisture does enter the grinder and the salt collects until it won't grind anymore. He cleaned it out but the mechanism still won't allow the grinder to rotate. I'll just be going to Home Goods and finding something else, for a whole lot less money.

Love the color

The salt and pepper mills are a very nice size, not too small, not too big. Easy to use. We like that the pepper mill will grind pepper very fine because you don't always want big visible pieces of pepper in your dishes. The salt and pepper mills are attractive. We bought the blue and they are very pretty. I do wish they had more colors available as green is my favorite color.

Didn't realize it was plastic from description.

I was so disappointed when it arrived and I was expecting the ceramic like the butter dish. And it was plastic. It left is cheaply made in my hand. Once filled, it gave it a little better feel. I hope over time I will accept them as a solid staple to the kitchen and be thankful it's not ceramic and to heavy.
