Q: How stable is this if not against a wall? I see it does not come with any anti-tipping hardware as the cheaper $25 three shelf bookcase does. I have the cheaper one now that is unstable unless against a wall and am looking for one that has more stability.

A: It doesn't say that it does, but it does include anti- tipping hardware.

A: Yes! Was looking at this option when I bought it in the event it was needed to shorten it under a window in my camper. Opted to keep it as it adds to the decor. Love it. Easy to assemble, economical, looks great!

Q: In the pic of the "natural" shelf, the base appears to be grey, not black. The verbiage indicates the base is black. Is the metal base black or grey?

The holes in the area where a cam is required are too small! I had to drill them bigger . This very cheaply thrown together. There was glue on the top; both slopes and seeping out of the seam. I finally got this put together and had to use a razor scraper to remove it which went beyond the very thin fake veneer. I managed to fix it with a wipe down of Old English dark furniture oil. I wiped the entire piece and it actually looks like wood. I hope it hold up since it is a nice design.

The bookcase looks nice, but one of the pegs the shelf sits on was missing from the box. It did not come with any extras. I called customer service weeks ago and was told they would mail us a new one, but it never arrived. We can't use the bookshelf without the piece.

These are beautiful and pretty easy to put together. HOWEVER! You’ll need to stand the unit up on a flat surface if you don’t want it to wobble! The back panel may or may not be straight so if you see that it’s not….cut it! I bought three of these to set next to each other and went out and bought mounting braces just to close the space in between each of them! Once I situated the back panel evenly they were all perfect! Also, I was missing a connector bracket but made it work with what I had! Would still buy this all over again if I had to. Worth it

Absolute junk. Cam locks do not line up and there is no way of securely tightening the top shelf. Item is too heavy to haul back to the store. Very flimsy and unstable. Not worth the price.

The backing comes folded in the box so there are creases. You can’t see them once things are on the shelves or if you line the shelves up with them. It was easy to assemble. The shelves go back pretty far so I just have everything closer to the edge rather than pushed up against the backing.

i see a lot of negative comments on this shelf but in my opinion it’s amazing!! it’s heavy and pretty and for the price there’s no beating it. It’s a great height and is the perfect size. I hate assembling anything so between me and my bf that also sucks at putting things together, it was extremely easy and worth it.
Soft pass unless you need/want something that looks and feels cheap.

As others have said the price is decent and in the end if you just need a cheap book shelf go for it. Even at $70 I was surprised at the low quality of the hardware and components, think cheaper than basic IKEA. Assembly isn't too bad but like many others we were missing pieces, actually one of the panels was wrong. A high point was custom service, one call and they shipped out the new (correct) part the same week. What is really disappointing is the back panel, it's cardboard with wood grain printed on one side. For being a "structural" component I would expect something a little stronger.

The bookcase is very sturdy and holds a significant amount of weight. I used the bottom shelf to hold my college textbooks and was surprised at how well they held up to the weight; I also used the other shelves to hold board games and other books. I am very pleased with this item especially since I overloaded it with weight and it has a slight bend in the selves but looks fantastic.

Exactly what I needed for my son’s room. What I like most about the shelf is that it’s elevated from the ground. I was able to hide my extension cords for the humidifier underneath. The quality of the shelf is what you’d expect for the price point which was okay for me because I wasn’t looking for something expensive or heavy duty. The backing is literally cardboard but for me that wasn’t a big deal. Overall the shelf is great and works perfect for my son.

I have several Room Essentials items that I have bought at Target over the past several years, and I am always impressed with the quality of their build, especially at the price point they're at. I bought this bookshelf most recently, and one of the shelf pins was misshapen, so I went onto the manufacturer, Ameriwood Home, website, and in less than 10 minutes had ordered a replacement part completely free of charge. It took about a week to show up, but with the ease of use to order it, I didn't care that it took some time. I will be continuing to buy these items from Target.
