Amazing AX Router
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used to have the highly rated M9 plus AC2200 router. The 2 unit mesh covered my 1500sqft 2 storied house. However, it was unable to deliver my internet connection at its fullest. At the farthest point, I was getting about 150 down from a 600 down connection. I wanted to try out something that can provide me with the range and hence upgraded to the Alien. I have been super happy with the upgrade. This router(no mesh points) by itself covers my entire house and pushes almost 450 down from my 600 down connection at the farthest corner. My office is located on the 2nd floor right above the router and I get full up/down speeds on my mac. The best part is that my 2018 macbook can now take advantage of its 3 antennae. Something I missed in my previous router. 4X4 mimo has its advantages. The router is super easy to setup. gives enough options for the regular home user(less you are a geeky networking guy). The router looks fabulous. Its almost a show-piece with a nice screen showing network activity and the nice ring light that can be dimmed or shut-off if necessary. Now, not everything is good with the router. I wished at-least the availability of WPA3 and 160Mhz channel support. I hear that is something Ubiquiti is planning to roll in the future via firmware updates. I also wished that at this price point, the router should support 2.5G WAN or some sort of link aggregation. Consumer internet bandwidth maxes out at 1.2Gigs now. But having the capability wont hurt even if it's a novelty. Overall, I am pleased with the router's stability and performance. I am happy that it can push most of the bandwidth that I am paying for throughout my house.

as close to trouble-free as you can get
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is as close to a trouble-free router as you're going to get, now that Apple no longer makes their Airport routers. In recent years, I've gotten used to and accepted as "normal" routers that mysteriously drop client connections, spontaneously reboot, slow to a crawl until you manually restart them, send your wifi and admin passwords to their servers without warning you first, yada yada. Not this router; it has been rock solid. And performance is also solid—I get 930Mbps from my ISP to the router, and 880Mbps wirelessly from the router to my MacBook in a "crowded" wifi environment (true, my MacBook is only around 20 feet away). Additionally, unlike most higher performance routers these days it has a decent UI both in the app and on the router itself, it's completely quiet (as far as I can tell). Plus, it doesn't look as much like it's designed to appeal to 13-year-old boys (you can dim or turn off the LED light at the bottom if you want). Plus it has had fairly regular firmware updates—unheard of! The only knock on it is that the UI is designed for simplicity and usability, so doesn't expose every single advanced option like some routers do. I'm not going to subtract a star though, because it exposes enough options for most users and the UI's usability is definitely better off as a result. If you want a router you can set up and promptly forget it exists, this is it!.

Doubled my WiFi speed vs COX provided hardware
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works very well for WiFi improvements over COX built in WiFi! Doubled from 220mbps to 440mbps!! WiFi 6 saves battery and increases speed , this thing is a MONSTER ROUTER with ability to broadcast 6 simultaneous networks !! It’s amazing and supports 249 devices also so it’s a game changer for me !! LONG range , great price , amazing app with lots of idiot proof features, and the yellow greenish light is a nice touch !! COX only gives you WiFi 5 and it seems to cap out at 220-240mbps no matter what which is strange ... but this immediately makes it NOTICEABLY FASTER ! Even just browsing the web !

Simple, reliable, fast
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router is awesome, it was the easiest setup I’ve ever done. Took less then 2 mins to setup with my iPhone. The speeds have been exactly where they should be on ethernet cable and WiFi. I’ve had no buffering or connecting issues with any device in my house. I have currently twenty devices connected. 4x Smart TVs, washer, dryer, thermostat, 3 wyze cameras, multiple mobile devices, 2x PS4 Pro and 1x PS5 and a hardwired gaming desktop. Everything stays connected and runs flawlessly at all times. WiFi 6 works great with the PS5 and my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I bought this to replace my Netgear Nighthawk X6 as the flash memory in it wouldn’t hold the settings when resetting or a power outage. Their are cheaper alternatives that offer the same and maybe some more, buts it a sleek device that I have to keep in the open, the app works great, can customize names and icons for all devices connected, and see how their connected, signal strength. I’m very satisfied with my purchase. It’s an eye catcher to everyone and they love the way it looks.

Best Mesh Router
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amplifi is owned by Ubiquiti, and I am a tacit fan of Ubiquiti, and they certainly didn't disappoint with this one. I have recently made the decision to buy 3 more(for an exceptionally wide property). This system operates optimally and gives you hints if you could potentially make the setup better. These routers demolish the Orbis I had from netgear, and it even has a nifty app. Whether the purpose is gaming, streaming, or just getting all of the performance out of your ISP, this one tops the chart.

Awesome router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this router from Woodland Hills, CA Bestbuy. Honestly, I’m happy with this router. I currently have Spectrum Gigabit Service up to 980MBs. I was using the provided router and the wifi will loose traffic (connected but no internet). I was getting about 300-500mb (wifi) on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. Once I set up this AmpliFi Alien router and ran a speed test, I received 776mb up and 40.9mb down on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. Which is much better than the Spectrum provided router. The digital screen is nice to show what’s connected (wired/wireless) and other important information. I haven’t dove into the user manual yet regarding the online web portal to access the router. But I’m currently using the app and it’s extremely easy to set up. By default you will only be using one radio (SSID) that will run both 2.4 and 5ghz channel but if you go deeper into the router’s setting you’ll be able to enable a separate 2.4ghz WIFI 6, 5ghz Wifi 6 and 5ghz channel. For now I’m leaving the single channel using both bands since the router is able to assigned the bands for each device without any issues or user intervention. The only downside (Bestbuy) does not have the full mesh bundle, will you will to find another online provider like B&N etc.. who do have the bundle if you really need the additional mesh unit or go directly to AmpliFi and they have it as well. Only time will tell how this router will perform. Will return to update if any major issues come up.

Best router … ever.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Want to get all the speed you are paying for from your internet service provider? Scoop up this router. (We have the att 500 plan, to reference the performance speed picture) Our old asus mesh network router would pull speeds up to 200, if lucky, on the same plan with the same devices. We have three kids who are heavy into gaming, and streaming videos. The illuminated green ring can be turned off or set to turn off automatically with night mode. The touch screen display can be turned on or off as well. The interface is clean and easy to use, and the profiles work flawlessly to turn on/off or pause the internet for groups of devices at a time. Set up took 3 minutes tops. Enjoy!

Q: QuestionWhen will Best Buy start selling the AmpliFi Alien Router and MeshPoint pack? I see it offered on the AmpliFi website.
Asked by Garbage.
- A:Answer Be careful about buying the MeshPoint pack. You save about $70 over the price of two Alien Routers (where one would be configured as a "RAMP" - Router As Mesh Point - but the mesh point in the combination package is locked to the router, and if the router ever fails, you have two worthless devices. Also, the mesh point has only a single ethernet jack and no display. I spent the extra money and bought three Alien routers with two configured as RAMPs using ethernet backhaul.

Q: QuestionThis is both a modem and router?
Asked by Dre.
- A:Answer This is just a router. You will need a modem.

Q: QuestionDoes this router support link aggregate as I have several wired devices?
Asked by Chaz.
- A:Answer From what I can find, No. According to Ubiquiti, The Amplifi Alien does not support Link Aggregation. All ports are 10/100/1000 and can't be aggregated to make 2gbps. You shouldn't need Link Aggregation unless you have 2,000mbps internet or you have a NAS, Plex server, etc. that you plan on using heavy amounts of data inside of your house. Hope this helps!

Q: QuestionHas anyone compared this with the NETGEAR RAX80? I appreciate the range and speed of the RAX80, but have been working with NETGEAR to resolve intermittent disconnect issues. How does the speed and range of the AmpliFi compare with the RAX80? Thanks!
Asked by NavyVet.
- A:Answer I've had both, and I've had those same disconnect issues with the RAX80. Eventually the Netgear just died and since it had issues even when working I didn't bother trying to replace it. The Alien has better range in general, slightly less performance drop-off as range increases, and never disconnects--it's rock solid. Plus, the Alien is better at meshing (to other Aliens, at least) and includes a free (if slightly proprietary) VPN. With the Alien, there's also none of that silliness of having to pay a monthly fee for advanced features (although there aren't that many aside from the VPN). P.S. - anyone want to buy a broken RAX80 that never worked right in the first place?

Q: QuestionHello, which wifi extender works with Alien? Thanks
Asked by Pharaoh.
- A:Answer I use the Netgear AC750, but honestly, any of their range extenders should work just fine. But the absolute best range extender for an AmpliFi Alien is another Alien.

Q: Questionwhat is the sq feet this will cover?? I have a 4500 house
Asked by Kaffienne.
- A:Answer The AmpliFi Alien tri-band Gigabit router works great in my 1800 sq foot home. For your size home your going to need to spend a few extra dollars and get the Alien router plus mesh point good up to 6000 sq. ft.

Q: QuestionCan you use the HD series to add to this router and extend the mesh.
Asked by Inspector1469.
- A:Answer You can add a HD node to the Alien but it won’t form a traditional mesh network with the Alien. Only the Alien mesh 2 pack with satellite or another Alien can be added for a full integrated mesh system. Wifi6 on the Alien and Wi-Fi5 on the HD. You can add a HD node to the to the Alien by enabling the third 5G AC band on the Alien and connecting to that in AP or bridge mode. It will add another network separate from your Wi-Fi6 network but it can be done.
